Eight Baylor students have been chosen to travel to Florence, Italy this summer on the Liz Aplin Art Trip.
Making the trip will be faculty member Heath Montgomery, David Stultz '17, Haille Dinger '17, Dean Azzouz '17, Eric Wu '18, Gabrielle Poteet '18, Katy Smith '17, Lizzie Thoni '17, and Mac Bender '17.
Art teacher Betsy Carmichael will also take the trip and Baylor alum, Beck Chen '14, will join the group in Florence. Chen is currently studying at the St. Petersburg Art Academy in Russia.
The trip is in memory of Liz Aplin, who taught art for 10 years at Baylor and passed away unexpectedly in 2000.
Baylor juniors Chapin Montague, Margie Hussey, Lizzie Thoni, Charlie Weeks, Pete Harinsuit, Tristan Benedict, David Stultz, Alison Anderson, Sims Pettway, Sydney Tindall, Lily Turner, and Diamond Wadley have been selected for the Joe Key Award, a trip that will involve seven days of sea-kayaking, hiking, and camping on islands in Maine's Acadia National Park this July.
The award trip is named in memory of the late Joe Key, who worked at Baylor from 1961-1988 as a military instructor and study hall supervisor and was affectionately known as “Sarge."
Recipients are rising senior students, nominated by the faculty, of admirable character whose selfless efforts might otherwise go unrecognized by the school or by their peers.
