The Pat Summit Foundation Tackles Alzheimer's Disease With 2nd Annual Chattanooga Fundraiser

  • Wednesday, April 13, 2016
In honor of the former UT women’s basketball head coach Pat Summitt, who is battling Alzheimer’s disease head-on, Jasper Highlands and the Lookout Mountain Golf Club will be hosting the second annual Pat Summitt Invitational event on Thursday, May 5 and Monday, May 9. The event, presented by Erlanger Health System, will benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation, an organization aiming to help find a cure to Alzheimer’s disease.

This two-day benefit event will begin Thursday, May 5 with an Evening with Charlie Daniels, located at the Jasper Highlands Summitt Pavilion, where attendees will enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment by Charlie Daniels himself.
During the event, special guests will honor and recognize Pat Summitt, including former UT coach and honorary chairperson Phillip Fulmer along with founder and CEO of Thunder Enterprises and event chairman John “Thunder” Thornton. On Monday, May 9, the Pat Summitt Golf Invitational will be held at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club. Last year’s inaugural event raised $75,000 for the Pat Summitt Foundation.

“We hope to once again honor the leadership and legacy of Pat Summitt through this year’s Golf Invitational and fundraiser,” said Dane Bradshaw, former UT basketball player and president of Thunder Enterprises, a local land development company. “All of the funds we raise help move us one step closer to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Our hearts are with those who have been affected by this tragic disease, and we greatly appreciate everyone who joins us in the battle to end it.”

Pat Summitt is the all-time winningest female coach in NCAA basketball history. In 2011, she revealed the toughest opponent she would ever face: Alzheimer’s disease. Not long after her announcement, the Pat Summitt Foundation was established in her honor, which is dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The foundation has a comprehensive approach to the fight by raising funds for the Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s clinic and awarding grants to other organizations that provide research, education and support services for Alzheimer’s.

The second annual Pat Summitt Invitational is sponsored by Erlanger Health System, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Unum, Jasper Highlands, HealthScope, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and Waterhouse Public Relations.
