HomeServe USA donated over $27,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
HomeServe USA on Wednesday announced a donation of over $27,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. HomeServe, a provider of home repair solutions, created an employee fundraising initiative through which more than $13,000 was collected to support St. Jude. The amount was subsequently matched by the company and followed by additional donations, as part of HomeServe’s “Charity Pitch” contest.
“Giving employees a stage to share the mission of organizations they each care about and encourage their fellow co-workers to support these causes has been rewarding to us as individuals and to our corporate culture," said Tom Rusin, HomeServe USA CEO. "Being able to come together, as more than simply office colleagues, to support a cause as important as St. Jude – it gives us pride not only in our company and what we stand for, but our commitment to do good for others. These funds will go towards helping thousands as St. Jude passes on its breakthrough discoveries to others.”
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the National Organization for Rare Disorders and The Parkinson’s Unity Walk were the three charities selected as overall winners in HomeServe’s “Charity Pitch” contest and will receive separate donation drives hosted by the company. In October, HomeServe and employees presented NORD with over $26,000 raised in support of the organization. The employees that presented the proposal to support these winning charities were granted an additional vacation day and each charity will receive an additional $1,000 donation on top of the company match.
The pitch to support St. Jude was presented by HomeServe employee Rubertha Taylor, who was introduced to St. Jude more than 20 years ago. She chose this charity because of its commitment to changing the lives of families when dealing with a crisis. Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing and food because all a family should worry about is saving their child.
