The Brainerd Community Farmers’ Market will be back to normal season hours (10 a.m.-12 p.m.) every Saturday starting May 7.
Located at the corner of Brainerd Road and Belvoir Avenue in the parking lot of Grace Episcopal church, the Market is excited to welcome several new vendors and welcome back our old friends. The Brainerd High School Choir and other community leaders will help celebrate the spring harvest. “We have great plans for this season, and are so excited to be able to offer Double SNAP again,” said Market Director Catherine Durham.
The Brainerd Farmers Market is held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturdays from May 7 through Dec. 10. Local farmers will present fresh, organically grown produce, farm fresh eggs, dairy, and meat products. Bakers will present delicious artisan breads, sweets and pastries, and fine artists, musicians and craftsmen round out the festive market.
The Brainerd Community Farmers Market happily accepts and doubles EBT/ SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) card dollars. In addition, the market accepts cash, credit and debit cards. Durham welcomes the community saying, “every dollar counts. We are thrilled to be able to double the purchasing power of our customers who are making healthy decisions for their families.” The Brainerd Farmers’ Market matches EBT/SNAP food purchases at the market every Saturday. Outreach for this program is made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga and the generosity of several private donors. SNAP recipients may bring their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to the farmers’ market and obtain tokens which may be used to purchase fresh, local produce, dairy products, meat products, honey, preserves, baked goods, plants used to produce food at home and much more.
The mission of the Brainerd Farmers Market is to make local organic and sustainably grown produce available to the Chattanooga Brainerd community and to encourage healthy local food choices for Brainerd residents through educational and financial assistance projects for low-income market patrons. Grace Episcopal Church, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides fiscal sponsorship and the physical location for the weekly farmers' market. Grace Episcopal Church supports local farmers.
