Lee University's Opera Theatre
Lee University’s Opera Theatre will present various scenes from well-known operas on Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall in Lee’s Humanities Center.
The program will include scenes from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” “Cosi Fan Tutte,” and “Don Giovanni,” Bizet’s “Carmen,” Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann,” and Nicolai’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” The scenes will be presented in a workshop environment with minimal set pieces and costumes.
"What I really like about the scenes program is that it is a good opportunity for the students to use their imagination to come up with their own staging, costumes and set pieces for their individual scenes,” said artistic director James Frost. “To see these young students grow as solo performers is very exciting.”
Opera Theatre began in the spring of 1998 as a workshop and has quickly grown into a production organization performing fully-staged operas from both standard and less traditional repertoire. The April 24 performance is the final project for the spring semester course.
This free, non-ticketed event is open to the public. For more information about the event or Lee’s Opera Theatre, please contact Mr. Frost at jfrost@leeuniversity.edu.
