Montgomery, Ala. – The Dalton State men's golf team has extended their lead after the second day of the three-day Southern States Athletic Conference Golf Championship at the par-70, 6,439 yards Montgomery Country Club.
The defending SSAC Champion Roadrunners (285-284 = 569) now lead second place William Carey (296-291 = 587) by 18-strokes.
Defending national champion Coastal Georgia (296-292 = 588) is now in third.
Dalton State senior Chase Jones (71-68 = 139) had Saturday's best round and is now tied for the individual lead with teammate Sean Elliott (69-70 = 139). Austin Hughes (78-71 = 149, and Levi Nix (75-75 = 150)) had the low four on Saturday for the Roadrunners. Dalton Johnson (70-76 = 146) is also playing well.
“Another great day from the guys today,” said DS Coach Ben Rickett. “They went and validated what we did Friday, but we are only two thirds of the way there. We have to keep our foot down and finish the job. It’s nice to have a lead but we need to play as if we are tied and go and win Sunday. I am so proud of the guys. This has taken a team effort to this point. It will also take a team effort to take care of this Sunday.”
The University of Mobile (297-295 = 592) stays in fourth. Faulkner University (300-297 = 597) is fifth, then Loyola – New Orleans (309-301 = 610), Blue Mountain (308-306 = 614), Bethel University (Tenn.) (308-307 = 615), Martin Methodist (312-312 = 624), and Brewton-Parker (317-315 = 632).
