Lee Softball Sweeps Christian Brothers With 8-1 Win Sunday

  • Sunday, April 17, 2016
On senior day it was a pair of seniors in Angie Hughes and Emily Dagnan that stepped up to help lead the Lee softball team to a three-game series sweep of Christian Brothers with an 8-1 victory on Sunday afternoon from Butler Field.

Hughes (10-11) pitched a complete game gem allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six batters to earn the victory in her final home game of a brilliant four-year career. The native of Blairsville, Ga. will leave as the all-time career strikeouts leader in program history.

Dagnan drilled two home runs, a double and finished with six RBI in the contest.
She got the Lady Flames on the board with a run scoring two-bagger in the first frame before launching a laser over the centerfield wall in the third and a towering homer to left in the fifth inning.

In addition to Hughes and Dagnan, senior leadoff hitter Amanda Lynn had three singles, drove in a run and scored a run. She will depart after four-years at Lee as the all-time record holder in runs scored, walks and stolen bases.

Fellow senior Lexie Dean added a pair of hits a day after becoming the career hits leader for the Lady Flames. Dean scored a pair of runs and added an RBI.

"Senior day is always very emotional and the girls really played well today. Emily had a great game today and played within herself and Angie pitched out of some jams and I was really proud of her. To be able to get 10 wins in a row is big accomplishment and should give us a lot of momentum moving into next year," said head coach Emily Russell.

Junior Courtney Crawford roped two hits and scored two runs while Leigh Beatenbough, Stevie Baird and Hallie Davis also registered singles to round out the 13-hit attack for Lee.

Christian Brothers (9-38, 3-27) got a pair of hits from Hannah Oliver. Holly Oyhenhart drove in the lone run for the Memphis club with an infield single in the fifth inning.

Sierra Anderson started in the circle for the Lady Bucs and allowed six runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Jenna Cotter pitched the final 1 2/3 innings in relief allowing a pair of runs on three hits.

The Lady Flames have now won 10 straight games and improve to 24-22-1 overall and 10-18-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee will close out the season at Mississippi College next weekend.
