SoundCorps Calls For Buskers To Audition For Sidewalk Stages

  • Monday, April 18, 2016

SoundCorps is preparing to launch Sidewalk Stages, a street performance initiative designed to activate Chattanooga public spaces with live local music throughout 2016.

Sidewalk Stages auditions will take place Saturday and Sunday in and around Coolidge Park and Frazier Avenue from noon-6 p.m. Check in will take place on the side patio at Brewhaus at 11:30 a.m. each day. Auditions will be scheduled in 30-minute increments throughout the day. Fifty open positions are reserved for local performers who wish to join the program. A panel of volunteer judges will determine which performers are eligible to be part of the initial Sidewalk Stages lineup.

“Sidewalk Stages will provide opportunities for local musicians to earn income while also encouraging the Chattanooga community to more easily and more often interact with local music providers,” said SoundCorps Executive Director Stratton Tingle. “If you’re a musician who wants to make more money and expand your audience, you’ll want to be part of Sidewalk Stages.”

Sidewalk Stages will engage up to 20 performers per weekend throughout 2016. When the program launches, each performer will receive a stipend of $25 for two hours of performance at a pre-determined time and location. Sidewalk Stages performers will be allowed to receive tips/donations from the public while performing, but they must act in accordance with all regulations governing street performance as well as rules established by Sidewalk Stages program managers.

Performers who have already performed as part of Sidewalk Stages in 2016 need not sign up to audition. Any musical performer with at least two hours of musical performance material and an address within 50 miles from Chattanooga will be eligible for participation in Sidewalk Stages. At this time, auditions are open to music-centric performances only.
