Two men have been charged in a home invasion on Elder Street in which the victim fought back.

Jason Delane "JB" Brown, 42, of 210 Hendricks Blvd., and Harley Adam Freeman, 25, of 2302 Lyndon Ave. in Red Bank, are charged with aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy. Freeman is also charged with possession of a weapon in commission of a felony and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police in January of 2015 said Freeman was a suspect in a shooting in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at the Lyndon Avenue address. However, he was not charged.

In the home invasion at 2202 Elder St., Apt. B, last Thursday, a couple said they were sitting on a couch watching TV when three white males with their faces covered with bandanas burst inside.

One of the men was brandishing a pistol and demanding money. Another man, who was armed with a knife, ordered the female to get on the floor. The third man, who was standing by the door, yelled at the man with the gun to shoot the dog and the man because he stood up to the gunman until the weapon was pointed at his head.

At some point, the male resident and the man with the gun began fighting. The man's bandana came off and he quickly put it back on.

The man who had been by the door went into a room and began ransacking it, while looking for valuables.

The man with the gun then went upstairs and began searching for money and other items.

The man with the knife stayed with the couple. He held the knife to the male resident's throat while standing behind him.

Police said the male resident was able to flip the man with the knife over his back and onto the floor. The man with the gun then ran back downstairs and pointed the gun at the male resident. He ordered him to get off the man with the knife.

All three men then decided to leave. The man with the knife was the last to leave, and, as he did, he grabbed a TV off a mantel. the male resident grabbed the man and he stumbled down some stairs, while dropping the TV.

The couple heard a shot fired in the stairwell.

Brown then ran outside to try to get the license number of their vehicle. He saw all three running in a cut in a wood line. He saw them get into a blue Jeep Cherokee with a green tag.

He said the gunman then saw him and fired two shots at him. However, he was not hit.

The male resident said he knew the man with the gun as "Harley". He said he recognized his voice and saw his face when his bandana came off.

He said he recognized another of the intruders as "JB" by his voice and features.

The woman said she also recognized Harley and JB.

The couple said Freeman and Brown were at their residence about three weeks prior to the incident hanging out with them.
