Carolina Griffin and Julia McQuilken led Dalton State golfers through round one of the GolfWeek Invite
Howey-In-The Hills, Fla. – The Dalton State women’s golf team if off to a great start in the inaugural Golfweek Magazine Spring Women’s Invite at the Par 72, 5980 yards Los Colinas Course at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.
Defending NAIA Championship Medalist Julia McQuilken leads the Roadrunners and everyone else with a one under par 71 through Saturday’s first round action. Katie Warren of No. 3 ranked William Woods is right behind with a 72.
William Woods leads the field with an 18-hole 302, but fourth ranked Dalton State is only five strokes back in second with a 307. Top ranked ranked Keiser (Fla.) and (7) South Carolina Beaufort are tied for third, each with a 317.
Individually, Dalton State’s Caroline Griffin is tied for fifth with a 75, Rachel Rebne has an 80, Katie Dalton finished Saturday with an 81 and Carly Shane shot an 89.
“I am really proud of the girls,” said Dalton State Coach Jim McGrew. “The conditions were not great and we had to wait out a two hour rain delay. We are in position to make a charge and win this thing tomorrow (Sunday). This is a great field and even with one of our players (Erika Wardzinski) injured and another not having a great day we still found a way as a team to put ourselves in position to win heading into the final round and that is all we can ask for. We look forward to the challenge and we will see how we respond.”

5 - Wayland Baptist (Texas) 318
6 - Thomas University (Ga.) 320
7 – SCAD – Savannah (Ga.) 324

10 – Southeastern University (Fla.) 336
