PEARL, MS- Matt Lipka's three-run triple in the sixth secured the M-Braves a 4-2 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts in Thursday night's series finale at Trustmark Park. With the win, the Braves also won the series three-games-to-two.
Mississippi (5-10) scored four runs on eight hits. Chattanooga (5-10) plated two runs on eight hits. Lipka led the Braves with a three-run triple.
The Mississippi Braves got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Camargo led off the inning with a double to right field. Ozzie Albies then delivered a RBI-single to right, putting the Braves out front 1-0.
Jacob Schrader, Willians Astudillo and Dian Toscano all singled with one-out to lead off the Braves' sixth. Lipka then drilled a bases-clearing triple to center field, putting the M-Braves out front 4-0.
Chattanooga cut the Braves lead in half in the top of the eighth but that was the only runs for the Lookouts in the game.
Levi Michael was hit by a pitch and Engelb Vielma singled to start the frame. An error by the second baseman allowed Michael to score and Vielma and Zach Granite to reach third and second, respectively. Daniel Palka walked to load the bases for a Mitch Garver RBI-single to right.
Ryan Eades had a nice evening on Thursday night in a losing cause.
Eades pitched five innings of one-run ball, struck out five, and gave up just four hits and one run. Despite giving up the one run, Eades was tagged with the loss as the Lookouts' bats were unable to make sense of Braves starter Brandon Barker.
After Eades left the game down 1-0, Reliever Brett Lee gave up three runs in the sixth to put Chattanooga in a 4-0 hole with just nine outs left to play with.
Brandon Peterson pitched the final two innings for the Lookouts, striking out one and facing the minimum in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Two Lookouts hitters had multi-hit nights, Palka who was 2-3 with a walk, and Levi Michael, 2-3 with run scored. None of the Lookouts seven hits were for extra bases and they managed just three walks against eleven strikeouts.
