The Cleveland High School Culinary Arts competed in the TN SkillsUSA State Conference this week in Chattanooga.
Beatriz Dedicatoria placed first in Commercial Baking. Emma Brusky placed first in Restaurant Service. Both girls walked away with over $30,000 each in scholarships. Chip Shellhouse placed fourth in Culinary Arts, and David Donan did an outstanding performance in the Jobs Skills Demo Open, officials said.
Ms. Dedicatoria had to demonstrate sanitation skills throughout her baking competition. She made yeast bread loafs and rolls, pate a choux and filled, a decorated cake, a pie crust with fruit filling, and finished with sugar cookies. She had to do a skills test also. She will move on to the National SkillsUSA completion in Louisville, Ky. in June for a chance for a full scholarship at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Ms. Dedicatoria was the presiding president over this year’s Conference with more than 2,000 in attendance.
Ms. Brusky had to preform table skill services, hostess responsibilities, demo a tableside Caesar Salad, and incorporate sanitation skills throughout her competition. She had to do a skills test as well. She will move on to the National SkillsUSA completion in Louisville in June for a chance for a full scholarship at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
Chef Rush was the 2016 TN State SkillsUSA Secondary Advisor of the Year. He has been a SkillsUSA advisor for 12 years with 10 years of attending the national conference, with the pins awarded for the attendance.
