The Chattanooga Mocs softball team heads to Greensboro, N.C., for a three-game series with UNCG. The squads square off in a doubleheader Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) and a lone game Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m.
"They're a good team," head coach Frank Reed stated. "I'm excepting it to be three hard-fought games. Everyone's looking for that consistency and to have that push going into the Southern Conference Tournament."
After two shutouts in a row, UTC is 27-22 and 6-6 in Southern Conference play.
The Mocs are coming off a 2-1 series win over Mercer in Frost Stadium last weekend and a 3-0 victory at UAB on Tuesday.
Senior Criket Blanco was named the SoCon Player of the Week for all games played during April 18-24. For the week, she had seven hits, including three homers and three doubles. She also drove in eight runs and scored eight times herself. Blanco leads the squad with 31 RBI and is tied for a team-best 12 doubles and five home runs.
The Mocs and the Spartans are tied for second place in the SoCon standings along with ETSU.
Chattanooga leads the series 51-12 with UNCG. UTC swept the Spartans March 21-22, 2015, winning 3-1 and 5-4 twice.
UNCG is 29-21, coming off a 7-1 loss to Charlotte on Tuesday. Last weekend the Spartans claimed their series with ETSU 2-1.
Alicia Bazonski has earned three SoCon Pitcher of the Week awards, while winning Pitcher of the Month for March. She leads UNCG with a 2.87 ERA, boasting a 16-7 record from the circle.
The Mocs host ETSU May 7-8 to wrap up regular season play. UTC then returns to Greensboro, N.C., for the SoCon Tournament May 11-14.
"It's nice to play where the conference tournament will be so you can get used to it," commented Reed. "It's always an advantage if you get to play at the school that's hosting the tournament that year."
