Candlelighters Family Support Group Golf Fundraiser To Be Held May 14

  • Friday, April 29, 2016

The 8th Annual Candlelighters Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 14 at Brainerd Golf Course.  Tee-off time is 8 a.m.  Registration fee for a team of four is $300, which includes green fees, cart, team photo, breakfast, and lunch.

"Candlelighters Family Support Group is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with a child stricken with childhood cancer.  It is a 100% volunteer organization, and there are no paid staff members.  The organization depends completely on fundraisers and donations.

"Sometimes one or both parents have to be away from their jobs to take care of a sick child.  Often this is without pay, and the family may get behind with their bills.  This causes extra stress on them, and Candlelighters tries to relieve them of as much stress as possible by paying house payments, rent, utility bills and various other financial obligations, officials said.

“The golf tournament is our largest fund raiser, and we need the community’s help to make it a success,” said Connie Edwards, president of the local Candlelighters Family Support Group.  “We would appreciate your consideration and support of our efforts to help families in one of the darkest times of their lives.  'It is better to light one candle, than to curse the darkness’.  Help us light those candles.”
