T
he Go Blue community event organized by Chattanooga Presents honored police officers and sheriffs in Miller Plaza on Friday.
The event coincided with National Police Week, which takes place each year during the week of May 15.
Little Caesars donated 250 pizzas, totaling about 2,000 slices, and Coca-Cola contributed soft drinks and bottled water. Local band Dr. B & the Ease provided entertainment. The first 500 people to arrive received free frisbees.
Community members had the opportunity to mingle with and offer words of thanks to local law enforcement officers while enjoying the free food, music, and beautiful weather.
WRCB-TV Channel 3 morning anchor Jed Mescon was the inspiration behind the event. He will soon be leaving Channel 3 for a position as vice president of Public Relations, Marketing and Development at Erlanger Health Systems. He said the Go Blue event was something he really wanted to do before he left.
Mr. Mescon said convincing all the companies that contributed to the event to participate took only about 20 minutes. At the start of the event, he took the stage and thanked police officers and sheriffs for their service.
“For what these people do on a daily basis, a Go Blue day should be every day,” Mr. Mescon said.
