Chattanooga Bicycle Club Has Ride Of Silence Tribute Wednesday

  • Friday, May 13, 2016

On one night in cities around the world, cyclists gather to ride in silence to raise awareness of cyclists’ right to ride on the road and to honor fallen cyclists – a rally that advocates for the living friends and family of victims, as well as a celebration of those who incorporate the bicycle into their lifestyle. Cyclists ride slowly and silently

Chattanooga area cyclists will meet at the Election Commission building’s parking lot at 700 River Terminal Road off Amnicola Highway at 7 p.m.

Tennessee state law dictates that motor vehicle operators should leave a safe distance of no less than three feet between their motor vehicle and a bicycle when overtaking and passing on a roadway. Cyclists ride in the Ride of Silence to increase awareness of how drivers and cyclists can share the road safely, and to honor those injured or killed where the motoring public may not be aware of cyclists’ rights.

The ride will leave at 7 p.m. and will wind through the streets of Chattanooga for 15-16 miles. The pace will be slow. There is no cost to ride, and every skill level is welcome. Riders should arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 for a prompt 7 p.m. departure. Helmets are mandatory and red tail lights are suggested for this ride.

There will be two ride leaders on this ride and no rider will be dropped. Tony Perri is the primary ride leader and can be contacted at 239.370-0713 or tony@perrimarketing.com for additional details.

Interested cyclists can visit www.rideofsilence.org for more information about the Ride of Silence, or www.chattanoogabicycleclub.com for more information about this local ride.
