Golfers from throughout the region will compete in the first annual MetMin King Oehmig Memorial Classic on Monday, at Black Creek Club. The event celebrates the life and legacy of the former Baylor Golf coach, Episcopal priest and longtime Metropolitan Ministries (MetMin) supporter, King Oehmig. Proceeds support the work of MetMin, a Chattanooga-based agency that has provided emergency financial support, wrap-around services and disaster relief for almost 4 decades.
The field is full due to the overwhelming response from players and sponsors. The support of Mr.
Oehmig’s wife, Margy Oehmig, and their sons, John and Henry, along with several other family members and friends has contributed to the success of this inaugural event.
“To me, Christianity is about ecstasy, a dimension of inexpressible wonder of love that has no boundaries, no restraints.” King Oehmig was a noted Christian author and scholar who served parishes throughout the South for over three decades. His other passion was golf. As coach at Chattanooga’s Baylor School, Mr. Oehmig garnered 21 TSSAA titles and was named Girls’ Golf Coach of the year in 2007. The MetMin King Oehmig Memorial Classic serves as a lively tribute to his sense of community and service: “total un-hand-cuffed love.”
The 2016 MetMin King Oehmig Memorial Classic is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust, Marshal Mize Ford, Fletcher Bright, Koch Foods, Electric Motor Sales, AM Investment Strategies, CBL & Associates Properties, Inc., Hamico Inc., Ward Davenport, and many others.
