Atheist Group Trying To Keep Secret Name Of Cleveland Woman Who Is Suing Sheriff Watson Over Christian Easter Message

  • Thursday, May 19, 2016

The American Atheists group is trying to keep secret the name of a Cleveland, Tn., woman who sued Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson over a Christian message he placed on the sheriff's Facebook page over Easter.

Several motions have been filed to have her remain only as "Jane Doe."

Thus far her name has been kept under seal in Chattanooga Federal Court.

The suit said using her real name would subject her "to ridicule and possible retaliation."

It says Sheriff Watson uses the sheriff's Facebook page to promote the Christian religion over others and censors those who object to that policy.

Sheriff Watson has said he is receiving wide support and said he is considering a counter-suit.

The suit, filed by attorney Perry Craft of Nashville, asks monetary damages and attorney's fees.
