Tours Of New GNTC Campus Offered To Catoosa County High Shoolers

  • Thursday, May 19, 2016

Juniors from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (LFO) High School in Catoosa County, Georgia became the first to tour the brand new Catoosa County Campus (CCC) of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) on Thursday morning.

Georgia Northwestern Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Ginger Mathis, along with a cast of other GNTC administrators helped give tours to students from LFO and the Performance Learning Center (PLC) throughout the day Thursday. The CCC becomes the college’s sixth campus. GNTC also has campuses in Floyd, Gordon, Polk, Walker and Whitfield Counties in Georgia.

“The Catoosa County Campus will provide the training you will need to be successful at the careers expected to be in demand in our region when you prepare to graduate from GNTC,” said Dr. Mathis in speaking to students taking a Thursday. GNTC is currently awaiting final accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for the programs it plans to offer beginning this fall. The programs expected to be online by that time are Business Management, Computer Support Specialist, Early Childhood Care and Education, Emergency Medical Services Professions, Health Care, Industrial Systems, Information Security Specialist, Instrumentation and Controls, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Mechatronics, and Website Design and Development.

The ground just broke 15 months ago on the 36-acre plot of land at the intersection of Georgia Highway 151 and Holcomb Road; approximately one half of a mile from Interstate 75. “This kind of a campus is exactly what companies looking at building in this region will be looking for. A guarantee of providing a trained workforce,” said former Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson during the 2014 groundbreaking ceremony.

Although classes are slated to begin in mid-August on the new 60,000-square foot facility, the college will host a ribbon-cutting onSeptember 19 to officially kick-off the new education venture in Ringgold, Georgia. Elected officials, as well as members of the Technical College System of Georgia from across the state, will be on-hand to help do the honors.

Next up for the newest GNTC site: Juniors from Ringgold High School will tour the facility on Friday. Then, the juniors of Heritage High School will make the trip to explore Catoosa County’s newest collegiate offering.
