Longtime Electrician Was Widely Respected In The Field

Charles “Charlie” Ewton, 83, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Charlie was born in Dunlap, and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Charlie joined the IBEW in 1953, and became a licensed electrical contractor in 1966, He started his own business Ewton Electric in 1967 and then merged with Lawson Electric in 1977.  Charlie served on the East Tennessee Chapter NECA board of directors from 1967 until December 2014 (47 years on the board). He also served as treasurer for over 30 years. He was a longtime dedicated member of White Oak Baptist Church.  Charlie was a member of the Northside Civitan Club and served on the Northside Neighborhood House Board. 

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Carole Ewton; parents, Will and Ruth Cunningham Ewton; sisters, Anna Lee Harmon and Mildred Ammons.

He is survived by his son, Brian Ewton; daughter, Nancy Ewton-Fullam and husband Mark; grandsons, Chas Ewton and finance Ashley, Wayne Fullam, Haden Fullam and wife Lindsey,  and JayP Fullam; sisters, Lorene Evans, Evelyn Wilkes, Marie Smith and Gertrude Narramore; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, May 27, at White Oak Baptist Church, 310 Memorial Drive, Red Bank, Tn. 37415.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will follow at 3 p.m. on Friday at White Oak Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s name to the Northside Neighborhood House, 211 Minor Street, Chattanooga, TN 37405, or White Oak Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
