McCall Adds Iowa Transfer

  • Tuesday, May 24, 2016
The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team added to the 2016 signing class. Coach Matt McCall announced Monday the addition of Iowa transfer Andrew Fleming.

Fleming has to sit out the 2016-17 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules and is a sophomore in eligibility beginning with the 2017-18 season.

“Andrew Fleming played at high-level high school programs at Oak Hill and Ensworth,” McCall noted. “He has elite basketball feel from the wing standpoint. He went to Iowa and will have an immediate impact in the SoCon after sitting out a year.”

So where does Fleming fit on the roster after the departure of six seniors from the 2016-17 roster?

“He can play multiple positions,” McCall continued.
“You can put him at the 2, 3 or 4. He's very similar to Tre' McLean in those regards. He can really, really shoot, but his best aspect is his feel and he's got size.

“At 6-5/6-6, you can move him around and play him in different spots. He's going to make Casey Jones and Tre' McLean much better in practice this year.”

Fleming played in 11 games as a true freshman for the Hawkeyes. He was Tennessee’s Division II-AA Mr. Basketball as a junior at Ensworth before completing his prep career at Oak Hill where he was a McDonald’s All-America nominee.

He tallied 1,117 points at the Nashville-area private school setting records for points (49) and 3pt made (9) in a game. His 72 3pt at Oak Hill in 2014-15 is among the most in school history as he helped lead the Warriors to a 47-1 record and runner-up finish in the Dick’s Nationals in Madison Square Garden

Including the addition of former Xavier forward Makinde’ London, McCall emphasized a multi-faceted approach to program building.

“At the end of the day, you've got to be able to sustain success,” he mentioned. “You have to be creative in recruiting. You can't just sign high school kids, you need to mix in some transfers, maybe some guys who have played in the Big Ten or Big EAST.

“Just continue to build your program moving forward.”
