Three Dalton Golfers Named All-American

  • Tuesday, May 24, 2016
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics office announced on Tuesday that three Dalton State women’s golfers have earned All-American honors for the 2016 season.

Roadrunner junior Caroline Griffin and redshirt freshman Katie Dalton were selected as first team All-Americans. Senior Julia McQuilken is on the second team. Griffin and McQuilken each received their second All-American awards.

“I could not be more proud of all three of our girls that have been named All-American,” said Coach Jim McGrew.
“This gives us five All-Americans in our first two years which is amazing.”

“For Julia, this caps a great two years with us including 2015 individual national champion. Caroline is a two-time All-American and a two-time National Academic Scholar. She has had a great year and we look forward to two more years of her leadership. Katie has had a great first year with three individual wins. Being named All-American puts a cap on a great start to her career.”

Derek Waugh, Dalton State’s Director of Athletics, said the athletes are much more than excellent golfers. “These three All-Americans are great kids as well and have a grade point average above 3.5. Dalton State golf has recruited outstanding kids to this school.”

Several other Southern States Athletic Conference golfers were also recognized by the NAIA. Diane Lim of Coastal Georgia is first team.  Sarah Gilliard of the Mariners and Kennedy Windlan of William Carey are on the second team. The University of Mobile’s Heather Nail is a third team All-American.

No. 3 ranked Dalton State (312-209 = 621) finished 10th last week in the rain-shortened NAIA Women’s Golf Championship at Savannah Quarter Golf and Country Club. The scheduled 72-hole tournament finished with only 36 holes completed.
