University of Tennessee at Chattanooga runners Paul Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Maddison Melchionna (Afton, Tenn.) were named to the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District today for cross country and track and field.
Stuart just completed his junior season on the men’s cross country team and led the Mocs on the course. He earned all-conference honors at the Southern Conference Championships last fall with a 12th place overall finish while recording a personal best time in the 8-kilometer race.
He placed 72nd overall in the men’s 10K NCAA South Region and finished eighth or better in the regular season.
Stuart graduated in December with a B.S. in Accounting with Latin Honors and began his work toward a Masters in Accounting in the spring. He earned a 3.5 GPA in the spring and was named to the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team.
Melchionna set the school record this season in the 800 meter run in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She won the 800 meter in the indoor race and ran the same distance on the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Champion Distance Medley Relay team.
She set the indoor record in the 800 meter run at the Samford Invitational in February with a time of 2:11.06. In April, she won the event at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational, posting a school-record time for the outdoor season at 2:08.88.
She is also a member of the cross country team and helped the Mocs to a second place finish at the league championships. In the classroom, the sophomore carries a 4.0 grade point average in Biology. She was named to the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team and was awarded the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal for Academics last year.
Both student-athletes are automatically nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America.
