James “Rodney” Brown, 73, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.
Rodney was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. He served two years active duty and one year reserves. During his active duty he was deployed to Germany as a truck driver for supply and equipment. He was also trained as an expert marksman. Rodney then became a supervisor at E.T. Barwick Mill where he was over the Automotive Department. After the closing of Barwick, he went to work for Rico Chemical Company where he retired.
He was survived by his daughters, Sherry (fiancé Roger Pierce) Brown and Kim (Brian) Bandy all of LaFayette; sister, Betty (Hoyt) Fortune of Texas; grandchildren, Amelia (Chuck) Thiers and Cameron Tate; great-grandchildren, Landon Bandy and Colton Thiers; his cousin, Katherine York; and several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28 from the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel at 6 p.m. with Pastor Malcolm Harris officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
Burial was private in the LaFayette City Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4 p.m. until service time.
