Ernest Ashley Oliver, 75, of Chattanooga, died unexpectedly on Friday morning, May 27, 2016.

Ernest was born in Chickamauga, the son of the late Luther and Mildred Oliver. He graduated from Chattanooga Valley High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

He served as a captain in the United States Army and received his commission from Officers Candidate School at Fort Sill, OK. He was retired from the Michigan State Police Crime Laboratory and was owner of Oliver Plumbing and Septic Systems. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Christine T. Oliver; two sons, Eric and wife Andrea Oliver of Nashville, TN and Andrew Oliver of Los Angeles, CA; one granddaughter, Piper Oliver; two brothers, William Joseph Oliver of Los Angeles, CA and Barry Oliver of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at the High Point Cemetery, 8645 Highway 193 in Chattanooga Valley for graveside services and military honors.

The funeral procession will leave the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, at 10 a.m. on Saturday and proceed to the cemetery. Friends are invited to meet and go in the procession.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 3, from 5-8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the National VFW Association, VFW Washington D.C. Office, 200 Maryland Ave NE, Washington, D.C 20002, in Mr. Oliver’s memory.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
