Tommye Sue Martin Lucas died on April 30, 2016.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, she was born in East Chattanooga and graduated from Central High School. While she was working at Miller Brothers as assistant buyer in the jewelry department, she met a handsome, young Marine who would later become her husband and the love of her life.  She married Roy in 1946 and they spent 69 loving years together.  She was a precious Christian woman.  She was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 30 years and served as the president of the Heavenly Searchers Sunday School Class.

Her last years were spent as a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her family. She remained true to the principle “God first, others second and self last.”  Times spent at Church worshiping God and enjoying family gatherings were things she treasured. After her daughters were grown, she worked as receptionist at the YMCA and later worked in area grocery stores introducing samples of new products.  She loved seeing old friends and made many new ones along the way.

Tommye was one of six daughters born to Albion Martin and Emma (Lowe) Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Zelma (J.C.) Rowden, Jewel (Columbus) Watkins, Stella (Gene) Butler, twin sister Jimmye (John) Ledford and brother-in-law Newman Wood.

She is survived by her adoring husband, Roy; daughters, Debby (Jerry) Weaver and Renee Lucas; grandchildren, Shane (Jess) Burnette and Ashley Burnette, Tara Weaver and Russ (Kay) Weaver; great-grandchildren, Lucas Burnette, George and Cosie Weaver; sister, Pansy Wood; and many nieces and nephews.

The Lucas family would like to thank Roni Morgan, Rhonda Gilliland and Avalon Hospice for their compassionate care.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend T.D. Burgess, Reverend Gene Butler and Reverend George Wallace officiating.  Internment will at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
