Strong Thunderstorm Causes Damage, Power Outages In Dalton

  • Monday, May 30, 2016

Shortly before 5 p.m., a strong thunderstorm went through downtown Dalton, knocking down numerous trees, causing power outages and also causing damage. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

The Dalton Fire Department and Dalton Police Department responded to multiple reports of damage. The DPD closed several roads due to downed trees and power lines. The affected area was localized near the downtown Dalton area.

A gas leak caused by storm damage forced an evacuation of the Monte Vista Drive area. Crawford Street was shut down in the neighboring area. The gas leak was repaired and residents were allowed to return home. All roads affected by the leak were reopened.

The power outages affected multiple traffic signals in the area. Officials said, "As a reminder, drivers should treat intersections where signals are out as four-way stops. On a flashing red light, drivers should stop and then proceed with caution if the intersection is clear. On a flashing yellow, drivers should proceed with caution."
