Congressional Candidate Michael Friedman Announces Economic Prosperity Plan

  • Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Dr. Michael B. Friedman, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives for Tennessee’s third district, has announced a plan to bring economic prosperity to the district.  The plan calls for an act of Congress that will allow for an expansion of high speed Internet to all areas of Tennessee’s Third Congressional District – particularly to the rural counties.

“The real issue at hand is power," said Dr. Friedman.  "By denying high-speed Internet access to our district’s rural areas, which are traditionally Republican strongholds, the Republican party in this state is systematically denying its supporters both intellectual and economic power, thus keeping them under their thumb.  Our U.S. congressman and state Republican lawmakers are solely responsible for the unfortunate economic circumstances many in our district are experiencing. The road to prosperity begins with supplying our citizens with the most vital and necessary tools to succeed, which in this day and age is access to high-speed Internet.”

Expanding high-speed Internet to all areas of the district will result in hundreds of jobs being created just for installation and upkeep. Bringing high-speed Internet to rural areas would attract new and established businesses of all sizes that are looking for advanced technology in areas that allow a more relaxed lifestyle and the ability to live and work in areas that feature unparalleled natural beauty, according to Dr. Friedman.

The second phase of the Economic Prosperity Plan is to create and pass legislation that grants a tax break to companies that either move or establish businesses in rural counties and hire citizens who live within those areas, encouraging wealth to be spread to more people within the district.

The third and potentially final phase will be to bring a major highway or high-speed rail to rural areas to make travel to the district’s more populated cities and towns easier, which will allow more businesses to connect and grow, according to Dr. Friedman.

“A few simple acts of Congress can quickly allow the district to leave behind our current economic doldrums and move toward life-changing prosperity,” said Dr. Friedman. “Typically, such incentives are focused on helping businesses grow and expand in more cosmopolitan areas, where fewer and fewer people can afford to live.  This plan is the first of its kind that focuses on helping our rural areas thrive.”
