First Things First will host a six-week community conversation, the Impact of a Father, beginning May 11.
Officials with First Things First said, for more than a decade, research has proven there is a strong correlation between father involvement and a child’s wellbeing. From birth to adulthood, a father’s presence in a child’s life produces overwhelmingly positive effects. When a father is not present, the impact can be associated with almost every societal ill facing the children of the community today. That’s why we’re inviting all fathers in the Chattanooga area to join us for breakfast and be encouraged to make a difference, starting in their own home.
Several leaders from the Chattanooga area will speak to the impact of a father from what they experience firsthand, including Chief Fred Fletcher (police chief of Chattanooga Police Department), Judge Robert D. Philyaw (current Hamilton County Juvenile Court judge), Buddy Nix (former general manager of the Buffalo Bills), Bryan Spillman (college life area director for Younglife), Dr. Charles Mitchell (principal of Brainerd High School) and a panel of youth.
Each week will bring a new speaker, a new perspective and a new conversation.
Fathers in the community are invited to be a part of the solution to continually increase father involvement and stronger families in the community.
The meetings will be held on Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 a.m., from May 11-June 15. The cost is $15 and covers breakfast for all six weeks. Register at FirstThings.org.
