Brianne with her coaches
GPS swimmer Brianne Holsomback has decided to continue her athletic career at the University of the South, Sewanee. A member of the swimming program at GPS since she stepped on campus as a sixth grader, she was part of the first-place relays in the Middle School Championship meets for three years.
Joining the varsity team her freshman year, she competed in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events and has been a Tennessee State Championship qualifier all four years. She was part of two top-eight freestyle relays at the Tennessee State Meet. During her years with varsity, the team has consistently placed in the top 10 at State.
Other Division III schools that she visited were Franklin and Marshall in Pennsylvania and Centre College in Kentucky.
Not just a swimmer, Holsomback has challenged herself with honors and Advanced Placement classes and is a member of the National Honor Society that recognizes scholarship, service, character, and leadership. She has been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity through the GPS Key Club and is a leader with Young Life and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Coach John Woods says, “Brianne is one of the strongest competitors I have ever had. In the toughest situations, she is at her best and has been a mainstay on our varsity relays since her freshman year. I am really happy she has found a great place to swim in college. I know her coaches at Sewanee will love her and she will continue to improve."
