  • Wednesday, May 4, 2016

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga will join forces once again this year to offer a series of free, monthly historical bike tours through Chickamauga Battlefield, beginning Saturday, May 21 at 9:30 am.

The public is invited to bring their bicycles and join in the leisurely-paced historical rides, which take approximately two hours. National Park Service rangers will talk about the history of the battlefield while Outdoor Chattanooga staff and volunteers provide ride leadership and support.

"Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club," organizers said.  Reservations for these bicycles are required; contact Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241.

The monthly tours begin at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Ride length is approximately three to four miles on flat to moderately-hilly terrain. The rides are appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets.

Additional Saturday battlefield bicycle tours are scheduled for June 18, July 16, Aug. 20,
Sept. 17, and Oct. 15.
