The No.1 seeds in singles and doubles claimed titles at the D-II AA Middle/East Region tennis tournament Saturday at GPS and Baylor girls and McCallie qualified the most (6) players for the upcoming TSSAA state tournament, May 24-28 in Murfreesboro.
Boys Region: MBA’s George Harwell defeated Miles Jackson (Ensworth) for the singles title, while top-seeded Patrick Toomey-Alec Kadrie (Baylor) beat teammates Cooper Long-Braden Kadrie, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 for the doubles crown.
Girls Region: Defending state champ Drew Hawkins (Baylor) defeated Winslow Huth (Harpeth Hall), 6-2, 7-5 in the singles final, while defending state champs Maddox Bandy-Jenna Thurstenson (GPS) def. Lauren Carelli-Presley Thomas (Baylor), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the doubles final.
Heading to State: The top five finishers in singles and doubles advance to the state tournament.
