Local Student And McDonald’s Employee Wins $2,500 Collegiate Scholarship

  • Thursday, June 16, 2016

Polk County High School senior Elizabeth Wilson, a McDonald’s restaurant employee at the Highway 64 restaurant in Ocoee, Tenn., was awarded a $2,500 McDonald’s National Employee Scholarship Award. Wilson is among several McDonald’s restaurant employees nationwide selected to receive this honor for outstanding employee contributions, scholastic achievements and community involvement.

“McDonald’s continues to provide me with opportunities to learn and grow,” said Ms. Wilson. “This restaurant offers flexible hours, which allow me to work my schedule around my academic and other responsibilities. The experience will serve me in my college classes and beyond.”

Ms. Wilson is the valedictorian for Polk County Class of 2016, a goal she set for herself her Freshman year. Wilson was on the volleyball team, played the trombone, competed with HOSA and was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She plans to attend East Tennessee State this fall. Mark Smith, local McDonald’s Owner/Operator recommended Wilson to receive this scholarship.

“Beth exemplifies the qualities of a true leader,” said Mr. Smith.  “She has done an outstanding job both in the restaurant and in school, using lessons from both to reach her goals.”

In addition to McDonald’s McScholar scholarship program, McDonald’s charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities, offers a number of scholarship opportunities for customers and employees alike. For more information on these opportunities,
