The passing of the great Lee Anderson is yet another blow to the conservative movement at a time where politics and culture are in decline. Long before Fox News and 24/7 political commentary, many stalwart leaders listened to the sage, consistent voice of men like Lee Anderson.
I will never forget brining House Majority Leader Dick Armey in to the Chattanooga Free Press to meet with Mr. Anderson. Leader Armey told Lee Anderson that his editorial page was one of the most principled and consistent conservative publications in the country and that he held Lee Anderson in the highest of esteem for many years reading his commentary on a regular basis.
Lee Anderson’s contributions to our region will bear fruit for generations. Actually, the Sunday School class he taught for decades is his greatest legacy. He was a deeply good man with a thoughtful heart and a pleasant demeanor. He will always be remembered and never forgotten.
On a personal note, my late father Don Wamp and Lee became friends late in life playing many games of doubles tennis at Manker Patten with John Guerry, Pete Austin and a group of men like that whose reputations were impeccable for honor and dignity.
Our world needs more men like Lee Anderson and I thank God Almighty for his life and legacy. He truly was a man of God and one of the greatest Chattanoogans to ever live.
