Tennessee American Water President To Keynote Chamber’s DIVERSIFY Luncheon

  • Monday, June 20, 2016

Valoria Armstrong, president of Tennessee American Water, will keynote the third annual DIVERSIFY luncheon, sponsored by the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.

The luncheon recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion. DIVERSIFY will be held this Friday, at 11:30 a.m. at the Convention Center.

“Diversity matters and it’s good business. Diversity means that the value and success you achieve is not due to what is seen on the outside,” said Ms. Armstrong.

“If you work hard at a company that believes in you, deliver on results and establish meaningful relationships, you can pave your way and set the stage for future success.”

In addition to the luncheon, there will also be a free marketplace featuring over 150 vendors.  Tennessee American Water’s parent company, American Water, will highlight its Corporate Supplier Diversity program.

Women comprise more than 50% of the board of directors of American Water. The senior leadership throughout American Water also includes a significant number of women, officials said.

"At American Water, we are committed to continually developing and engaging a diverse workforce. American Water actively works to create an environment where every employee feels valued and supports our commitment to maintain a workforce intended to reflect the local communities we serve through the people we employ,” said Susan Story, president and CEO, American Water.

Tennessee American Water is the primary water provider in the Chattanooga area since 1887.  In 2015, Ms. Armstrong was named president, the first woman and African American to serve in this role.
