Bertha Powell
Bertha Mae Moore “Bertie” Powell, 71, of Hixson, died on June 22, 2016.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1944, in Chattanooga, to the late Mabel Morrell Moore. She attended City High School, Chattanooga and graduated from Cross Keys HS, Atlanta. She retired from Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church as administrative assistant to the senior pastor.
She was an active member of Stuart Height Baptist Church. She also loved and was deeply devoted to the Tres Dias community of Southeast Tennessee.
Surviving Bertie are her husband of 51 years, Thomas Freeman Powell; four children, Lisa (Doug) George of Decatur, Ga., Jessica (Kelvin) Stamper of Ooltewah, David (Lori) Powell of Hixson, and Laura (Mike) Simmons of Kingston; one brother, James Moore of Chattanooga; eight grandchildren, Kate and Beth Stamper of Ooltewah, Ben, Jake, Nathan and Matthew Powell of Hixson, and Claire and Luke Simmons of Kingston.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 25, from 2-4 p.m. at Stuart Heights Baptist Church, Chattanooga campus, 3208 Hixson Pike (in the S curves). A celebration service will follow at the church with pastors Brian Smith and Mark Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Powell’s memory to Stuart Heights Baptist Mission Fund or Tres Dias of SETN Scholarship Fund.
