Pratt, Quilla W. (LaFayette)

Quilla W. Pratt, 95, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Sarah Frances Wheeler; her brother, Leon Wheeler and his wife, Margaret Little Wheeler.

Born in Greely, CO, she moved with her parents to the north Georgia area where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School and became a licensed beautician and worked in Rossville, GA. During World War ll she worked installing electrical equipment in warplanes and then in Oak Ridge at the atomic bomb center. She was married in 1943 to her loving husband of 73 years and moved with him to Auburn, ME for several years before they returned to LaFayette, GA where she worked as a dental assistant until her retirement.

Mrs. Pratt will be remembered by her family and friends as a creative artist and craftsman.  She enjoyed and expressed her talents through many mediums. It gave her great pleasure to give her creations to those whom she loved, and she leaves a beautiful legacy of her works with them.

Quilla was a devoted Christian and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in LaFayette for 65 years. For many years she enjoyed using her God-given creative talents to arrange the flowers for Sunday services each week. She influenced many young girls’ lives through her work in the church GA organization and Sunday School classes.

She is survived by her husband, Stanton E. Pratt; her daughter, Linda (David) Derrick; two grandchildren, Chas (Kathy) Peppers and Ben (Lana) Peppers; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Lily; and several loving members of her husband’s family in Turner, ME.

Her family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church sanctuary in LaFayette from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. The service is scheduled to immediately follow at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary and interment in the LaFayette City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dave Gilbert, Henry Gilbert, Bill Loughridge, Ben Potts, Bruce Potts, Jim Wardlaw, Chip Wheeler, and Bill Whitten.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of LaFayette, 201 N. Maine St., LaFayette, Ga. 30728.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.
