D. L. Wilson, 73, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in a Chattanooga hospital.

D. L. was the son of the late Charlcie Hall Wilson and Eldon D. Wilson; and was also preceded in death by his granddaughters, Hope Fowler and Briley Wilson.

D. L. was a proud U. S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam in the Military Police. He was the former President of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 596 and former Chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans where he is a lifetime member of both organizations. He was retired from Rubbermaid with over 16 years of service as a mechanist. D. L. loved to read and his favorite author was Louis L’Amour. He loved all of his dogs especially “Sissy” and “Choc”. D. L. was known for his sense of humor and he loved to talk. He never met a stranger! He has held credentials with the Baptist Church to preach since 1978. He was an active member of the Ball Play Baptist Church where he has served as Deacon for the past 3 years. 

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gail Epperson Wilson of Cleveland; his daughters, April Fowler and her husband Chuck of Cleveland and Deidre Guffey of Ocoee; his sons, Rodney Wilson and his wife Bonnie of Benton, Corey Wilson and his wife Lindsay of Old Fort; his grandchildren, Jacob Wilson and his wife Elizabeth, Rebekah Wilson, Kacie, Rachael and Lilly Fowler, Dillon and Jax Guffey, Mikaila, Mason, Jesse and Avery Wilson; his sisters, Mary Jo Davis of Old Fort and Loretta Sherrill of Cedartown, GA; his brothers, Mac Wilson and his wife Irene of Crandall, GA, Larry Wilson and his wife Lisa of Chatsworth, GA;and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Sunday, June 26, at 2 p.m. from the Ball Play Baptist Church in Polk County with Pastor Mike Rymer and Pastor Matthew Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Mason Wilson, Corey Wilson, Casey Fowler, Jacob Wilson, Dillon Guffey, Jonathan Davis, Jeffrey Wilson and Chuck Fowler serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be given. A Dove release will conclude the services.

The body may be viewed from 1-2 p.m. service time at the Ball Play Baptist Church on Sunday.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
