The public is invited to join Area 61 Gallery, 61 E. Main St., this Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for First Friday July for the opening of W. Michael Bush's exhibit featuring his latest body of work - "A Mirror on America."
"This extremely thought provoking and moving exhibit will take us all out of 'comfort zone.' We are constantly bombarded by harsh news stories and often become desensitized. Michael uses his bold artistic talent to share his perspective and in his words: 'My newest series of works are aimed with a critical eye on our society and some of its most flagrant ills. The hope is that, with honesty of introspection, we will recover from this period of greed and avarice and begin to see our fellow citizens with more humane eyes. Our problems are not unique to the United States of America. But they reflect a widespread mentality that has been embraced, sadly, by young and old alike. This collection is just part of a larger group of works that is designed to stimulate conversation – not argument. I just feel that it is time for all of us to do some soulsearching as to how we might help each other through this journey called life.'
"We are pleased to host this installation. Stop by for the exhibit opening, meet Michael and the rest
of our artist family, join the discussion, toast to your week's successes and enter the rest of your
Fourth of July celebrations with a rediscovered sense of gratefulness and kindness," officials said.
