Viet Nam Air Force Veteran Volunteered For Disabled American Veterans

Walter “Poppie” Cecil Croy died after his battle with lung cancer on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Walt served during the Vietnam era and retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service. He was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans. He loved wood carving, making walking canes, working with leather, drawing and painting gourds. His love for the outdoors had him grow beautiful flowers and a green, lavish lawn.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann; adopted daughter, Mariaha; two stepchildren, Susan and Derik; daughter-in-law, Denise; brother, C. S. Croy of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Nyla Clower and Mary Price of Princeton, West Virginia; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. 

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1, at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with visitation from 1-2 p.m. on Friday. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
