The PeyBack Foundation, a public non-profit corporation, established by Peyton Manning in 1999 to promote the future success of disadvantaged youth by assisting programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities for children at risk, has awarded a $10,000 grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga.
This grant will be used to fund activities for our Mentoring in Motion program, officials said.
“As an agency, we strive to offer a variety of activities for our mentoring matches to enjoy at no cost to our mentors. One of our goals is for our mentors to expose their 'Littles' to a wide range of activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, build self-esteem, teach life skills, promote cultural enrichment, and are both fun and educational. This is a critical part of helping each child grow to reach their full potential”, said Theresa Varos, executive director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga.
"The Mentoring in Motion program will provide many activities for Bigs and Littles in the Community-Based Program. Several are aimed directly at promoting physical activities and fostering a greater appreciation of nature, while others have a more cultural focus. These activities will provide a fun and educational experience beyond the classroom setting. After attending at least three offered activities, matches will be able to experience a University of Tennessee at Knoxville college tour and football game," officials said.
Big Brothers Big Sisters serves children ages six through 18 in Bradley, Marion, Hamilton, Catoosa, Dade and Walker counties. "As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ('Bigs') and children ('Littles')," officials said. "You, don’t have to change your life to change the life of a child. Through simple friendship, 'Bigs' experience the joy of helping children discover a world of possibilities and opportunities."
