Heather Nail
Anyone who has followed Southern States Athletics Conference women’s golf during the past three season knows the name Heather Nail.
The native of Hartselle, Al. grew up on a golf course owned by her father. She started swinging a club as soon as she could walk. Dalton State women’s golf coach Jim McGrew says Nail has agreed to finish her college career at Dalton State.
“I believe it is the most successful program in the NAIA,” said Nail. “I hope to excel with the Roadrunners.”
Nail played her first three years of college at SSAC opponent the University of Mobile where she was freshman of the year, a three-time SSAC All-Conference star, the 2015 SSAC Player of the Year, and has twice been named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Al-American. She is also the 2015 Alabama amateur champion.
Because she is transferring from a conference opponent, Nail will be required to redshirt for a season before playing during the 2017-2018 season.
“We are excited to have Heather join our program,” said McGrew. “It is a great compliment to our program that someone with her pedigree, and with one year of eligibility left, would be willing to come sit out a year due to transferring within the conference.”
Hartselle High captured four state AAAAA titles while Nail was on the golf team. She was also the winner of one individual state championship. “She brings a lot to the table and we are excited to have her in Dalton the next two years,” added McGrew.
Heather is the daughter of Carol and Matt Nail.
