Here are upcoming news and events from Outdoor Chattanooga:

Paddle Smart Chattanooga June 14 & 28

Paddle Smart Chattanooga is a class taught by Outdoor Chattanooga's experienced paddling instructors to offer guidance on how to access Chattanooga's waterways safely and with confidence. There are two classes scheduled for Tues., June 14 & 28 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Classes are designed for individuals that have their own boat and equipment, but want to learn safe paddling techniques, how to locate canoe/kayak launches, other safety precautions and resources for recreational paddling in the Chattanooga area.

The class will conclude with a group paddle to get some on the water experience. Appropriate for ages 10 and up, but all minors must be accompanied by an adult/legal guardian. Cost is $25 per person. Downtown Kayak Tour June 16

Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a beginner friendly kayak tour of downtown Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. Our experienced guide staff will provide basic instruction, then lead a leisurely paddle from the north shore around landmarks such as Audubon Island/ Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bluff View Arts District, Ross' Landing and downtown's historic bridges. All equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. The tour is appropriate for ages 8 and older. Children ages 8-13 must paddle in tandem with an adult (limit: 2 kid spaces per trip). Sunset Kayak Tour June 16

Join Outdoor Chattanooga's experienced river guides for a 2 hour, beginner friendly and leisurely paced, sunset kayak tour down the Tennessee River on Thurs., June 16 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The tour is appropriate for ages 14 & up. Cost is $45 per adult, $35 for children 14-17 years old. Cost includes guides, kayak, equipment and return shuttle to your vehicle.  Registration and payment is required in advance. Full Moon Kayak Tour June 18

Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a Full Moon Kayak Tour on Chickamauga Lake on Sat., June 18 from 7:30 -10:30 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely tour around the islands and sloughs beginning at sunset and ending by the light of the full moon. Cost is $45 per person and includes guides and all equipment. The trip is appropriate for ages 14 and older when accompanied by an adult. Registration and payment is required in advance. National Boating and Fishing Week June 4-12
National Fishing and Boating Week is a national celebration and an event that highlights the importance of recreational boating and fishing. In 2016, the event will take place June 4-12. Boating and fishing are fun, stress-relieving activities that you can enjoy with your family and friends anytime. Many states, including TN, GA and AL offer a free fishing day on June 11, which is a perfect opportunity for beginners to try out fishing for the first time.

River City Sessions at Lula Lake Land Trust June 10
River City Sessions is a celebration of southern music and storytelling and will be held at Lula Lake Land Trust's core property on Friday, June 10. Gates open at 6 p.m. Live music and storytelling begin at 7 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per person with proceeds to benefit Lula Lake Land Trust. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Family friendly event. 

National Park Service Find Your Park: Hike, Bike, Climb Lookout Mtn. June 11
The National Park Service Centennial celebrates 100 years of service and will kick off a second century of stewardship of America's national parks and engaging communities through recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is partnering with Outdoor Chattanooga for Find Your Park: Climb, Bike, Hike on Lookout Mountain on Sat., June 11 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. The public is invited to come out for guided recreational activities and learn more about their local park. All activities/guided tours begin at Cravens House. 
¦ Rock climbing - Hike to Sunset Rock to try rock climbing. 
Equipment and guide staff provided. Register for 9 am, noon, 
or 3pm at Cravens House; open to all.
¦ Mountain biking - Ranger-led, 5-mile rides on Upper Truck 
Trail at 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm. Bicycles and helmets are 
available.
¦ Hiking - Ranger-led hikes at 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm.
This event is made possible through the support of the Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

South Chick Creek Orientation June 11
South Chickamauga Creek provides over 30 miles of paddling from Ringgold, Georgia to the Tennessee River above downtown Chattanooga. While its gentle currents provide fun for even novice paddlers, knowing where to put in and take out can be intimidating. The South Chick Creek Orientation, hosted by Audubon Acres is a free class that will cover the most common places to launch boats along South Chick, what obstacles may require portaging, and what resources are available for paddlers to help create your perfect day on the water. TU Canoe Rental & Shuttle will be on hand after the class with several kayaks you can try out in the creek! Talk begins at 1:00 pm on Sat., June 11 in Walker Hall at Audubon Acres.
