Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga has named Trey Hicks as the Fighting Irish’s new head baseball coach.

“The Notre Dame community is extremely pleased to have Trey Hicks leading our baseball program and mentoring our young men and women in the classroom.” said Matt Pobieglo, Notre Dame’s athletic director.

Hicks comes to Notre Dame from Red Bank High School, where he played baseball and graduated in 2001.

Hicks then played at Cleveland State Community College and finished his baseball career at Lee University.

From 2006-10, Hicks served as an assistant coach for the Red Bank baseball program before being named head coach in 2011. During his tenure at Red Bank, the Lions won three district champions and a region championship. In 2012, the Lions would earn a berth in the state tournament and Hicks was named TBCA Coach of the year.

“I am thrilled to become a part of the Notre Dame family.  I feel extremely honored and blessed to have received this opportunity and look forward to teaching and coaching at a school with such strong academic standards and rich athletic traditions.” Hicks said. “I am excited to meet the team and begin preparations for the upcoming season.  I’d like to thank George Valadie, Notre Dame president, and Matt Pobieglo for the chance to lead the baseball program.

The plans they have set in motion for the Fighting Irish athletic programs are exciting and I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.  I’d also like to thank my wife Carrie, and our children Garrett and Tenley for their continued love and support.”
