Evelyn L. Thornhill
Evelyn L. “Wee Wee” Thornhill, 89, died on Monday, June 27, 2016.
She was born September 29, 1927 to the late Ezra and Nellie Mathis in Chattanooga. She was the second of 12 children. She attended Howard High School and retired from Standard Coosa Thatcher First Aid and was also employed by Dr. Lloyd W. Thompson.
She joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age and began singing at age five.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ellis B. Thornhill; one son, John Dandy; five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Margaret), Michael Dandy, Daniel Paul Thornhill of Chattanooga; Billy Hasani (Bonnie) Subira of California and Floyd (Dianna) Mathis of Chattanooga; sisters, Mildred (Gatha, Sr.) Logan, Patricia (Preston) Green, Chattanooga, and Mary “Liz” Mathis, Tyler, TX; brother, Elder Ernest Mathis of Pacoima, Ca.; sisters-in-law, Barbara Mathis of Detroit, and Ruby Mathis of Chattanooga; cousins, Bertha Ware and Mary “Liz” Thornhill of Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Mrs. Ottis Dean Gibson of Bowie, Md.; Ms. Charlene Williams and Ms. Ceola Kendricks of Chattanooga.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in the Chapel with Elder Ernest Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on the day of service.
