McKenzie Byerly recently signed to play volleyball with Cincinnati Christian University. The recent Hixson High School graduate played for the Georgia Adrenaline volleyball club for the past two years. She will be majoring in secondary education as a participant in the honors program.
Byerly stated, “I’m excited to play at CCU because the team made me feel like family as soon as I walked into the locker room.
Coach (Rick) Kerkhoff made practice fun and pushed me to be my best.” She continued, “I can’t wait to be a part of this team this year. I was attracted to CCU because of its size and homey feel.”
Byerly related that her most memorable time playing volleyball was traveling to tournaments. She said, “It brought our team together and we always kept the fun going whether we were on or off the court.” She plans on majoring in secondary education because she loves working with children and making a difference in people’s lives.
Her stats with the Adrenaline included a kill percentage of 88.1 with a 95.6 percentage in digs, while averaging 97.4 percent on serves.
Coach Kerkhoff added, “We are thrilled to add McKenzie to the CCU volleyball program. Once on campus she showed that she would be a great addition to the Eagle family. Her high grades and skills on the court are what we are looking for in our student athletes.”
Kerkhoff further commented, “Signing players like McKenzie is what keeps our program feeling like a family who work together to achieve goals. Ultimately, she will give us some lineup flexibility as she can play setter or defensive specialist.”
Cincinnati Christian University is an NAIA school, competing in the River States Conference. CCU also competes in the Midwest Region of the NCCAA and had a 16-11 won-lost record last season.
