Rep. Carter Is A Champion For Statewide Broadband Expansion

  • Wednesday, July 13, 2016

It has come to my attention, that there has been a few allegations made regarding Rep. Mike Carter's efforts toward passage of Broadband Legislation during the 109th Tennessee General Assembly.

I can speak first hand that no one championed the issue more than Rep. Carter.

As Chairman of the Business and Utilities Sub-Committee, I can tell you, Rep. Carter not only supported broadband expansion Statewide, he was the sponsor of that legislation. His leadership "set the stage" for real action against an Industry spending millions of dollars annually to stop it.

By the way, next time you see Rep. Gravitt, Rep. Brooks, and Rep. Howell, give them a pat on the back also. They stood up for you.

Broadband is not a popular subject in Nashville, but Rep. Mike Carter has continued to lead the way in working to get broadband to the areas that the Big Three don’t want to service. He sponsored HB2408 and co-sponsored several other bills that did not sit well with the telecom giants and with the lobbyists.

However, he held his own and did now cower to the pressure and bullying tactics that have become such a part of politics.

If you live in District 29 you find that Rep. Carter will return phone calls, is available and, even when he disagrees with your viewpoint, he will spend the time explaining that what may be good for you is not in the best interest of all. He is respectful and has proven himself as a leader in the Tennessee House.

I hope you will join me in voting for Rep. Carter to continue leading District 29.
