The Sportsbarn Hosts Triathlon To Benefit Local Families Through First Things First

  • Thursday, July 14, 2016

All athletes from the Chattanooga area are invited to test their physical strength at the 20th Annual Sportsbarn Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 7.

The event starts at the Chickamauga Dam, where competitors will swim, ride, run, or even paddleboard to downtown Chattanooga.

Each year, over 700 participants and spectators turn out for this challenging sprint triathlon presented by The Sportsbarn. Proceeds benefit First Things First, a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening area families.

The triathlon begins at 7 a.m. with swimming .25 mile or paddle boarding one mile down the Chickamauga Lake, followed by an 8.2 mile bike ride to downtown Chattanooga via Amnicola Highway. The race ends with a 2-mile run along the Chattanooga riverfront and the North Shore.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners overall and in each age group.

The Sportsbarn Sprint Triathlon welcomes Race Day Events as the official time-keeper.  Their service provides accurate net and split times for each athlete.

The cost to participate in the triathlon is $55 per person and $80 per relay team.  After Aug. 3, the cost will go up to $60 per person and $85 per relay team. The registration fee includes food and an event t-shirt.  Register online at www.sportsbarn.net or by calling The Sportsbarn at 423-266-1125. Pre-registration is required. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.

The Sportsbarn Sprint Triathlon is sponsored by Quintana Roo, Personal Fitness Specialists, Summit Physical Therapy, Southern Coffee Service, Puckett Emergency Medical Services, Tennessee Valley Canoe Club, and Christian Motorcyclists Association.
