Wrong-Way Driver Causes Multiple-Vehicle Accident Early Thursday Morning; Motorcyclist In Critical Condition

  • Thursday, July 14, 2016

Bradford Bailey, 25, was arrested for DUI after he drove the wrong way on Highway 153 southbound and caused multiple vehicles to wreck around 2:11 a.m. Thursday.

Chattanooga Police reported a black Jeep Patriot driven by Bailey had a head-on collision with a white Dodge Ram that was traveling properly in the southbound lane of Highway 153.

Seconds after this initial crash, authorities said a black Suzuki GSK600F approached the scene of the crash.  Due to extremely low light in the area, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid or maneuver around the Jeep Patriot that sat sideways in the center of the Highway 153/I 75 SB split.  As a result the motorcycle made contact with the Jeep and the motorcyclist was thrown.

The motorcyclist, driver of the Dodge Ram, and passenger of the Jeep Patriot were all transported to Erlanger Hospital for further treatment.

Bailey was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI, driving wrong way on a one-way street, reckless endangerment with a vehicle, failure to exercise due care, and driving without a driver's license.

All reported injuries are classified as non-life threatening. The only person seriously injured in the wreck was the driver of the motorcycle (Suzuki GSX600F) who was admitted to a local hospital into the Intensive Care Unit.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.
