Rep. Mike Carter: A Man Of His Word - And Response (3)

  • Friday, July 15, 2016

When Mike Carter first ran for the House, he promised he would work to do away with forced annexation of “we the people’s” property.  In many areas of Tennessee, city councils (or similar governing bodies) were annexing individuals’ properties without the people having any input into that decision.  The way this worked was that a city council would vote to annex a certain area, and if you lived in that area, all of a sudden, you, as a property owner, were now subject to additional taxes, in many cases with no services provided - for example, garbage service.

After Rep Carter was elected, it became quickly apparent that there was very strong lobbying opposing his efforts to stop forced annexation.  Part of that opposition, the powerful lobby, Tennessee Municipal League, made up primarily of City Mayors, fought his efforts every step of the way.  After all, doing away with forced annexation would eliminate an easy, fairly quick revenue stream for cities.  Think about that:  A City Council could decide to annex your property and therefore increase your taxes  without you having any input into that decision.

Mike Carter worked like a real representative of the people to get forced annexation eliminated.  He kept his word, in spite of tremendous obstacles and potential political backlash.  Now he is being challenged because of his stand for “we the people.”

Let’s show our support for Rep Carter at the polls.  Thank him for doing what he said he would do and standing for “we the people.”  He is a man of his word.

Mike Carter has effectively represented District 29 for the past four years. Rep. Carter has consistently cast legislative votes in line with our views and values, but overall effectiveness includes much more.

Rep. Carter’s legislative and life experiences have propelled him to a high level of influence. When complex issues come before the House, his advice and counsel are often solicited by other House members because of his knowledge, ability, and willingness to work with others. He has earned respect in Nashville and gives our district a much stronger voice on many issues than is enjoyed by other districts throughout the state.

In addition to talent and experience, effort and time are required to be an effective representative. Rep. Carter works for us year round doing this “part-time job”. Many representatives simply don’t have the time for high levels of service due to other jobs and obligations. Rep. Carter has dedicated his time to serve our district, and gives tremendous effort without professional distractions or conflicts.

Mike Carter deserves another term, and a vote for him will ensure that District 29 continues to receive effective representation.

We would encourage our friends and voters in the 29th District to vote for Mike Carter.  Mike made promises before he went to Nashville that he would fight against the powerful lobbies to help the people in the 29th District and the state of Tennessee.  He has kept those promises.

Rep. Carter "hit the ground running" to stop the forced annexation of communities by larger communities.  He has worked tirelessly on the Broadband bill to help Tennesseans access to the internet and television programming.  Mike is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and supports family values.

We have seen Mike as he works with constituents on problems with licensing, health and TNCARE issues.  He showed concern, acted quickly and followed up to resolve issues.

Mike Carter is truly a representative for the people of the 29th District and the people of Tennessee.

Please, join us in supporting Mike Carter for Representative of the 29th District.

I'm writing to encourage the citizens of the 29th District to vote for State Representative Mike Carter on August 4th. As former Chair of the Hamilton County Republican Party, and former member of the Tennessee State Republican Executive Committee, I've worked with Mike on many issues over the years, and always found him to be man of integrity who does what he says he will do. To his benefit, Mike Carter isn't typical politician. When he promised to end forced annexation in Tennessee, practice that allowed cities to annex private property without the consent of property owners, no one believed him. The politics was just too tough, but Mike didn't care about the politics. As former Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge, Mike always tries to do what he believes is fair, and not what's politically expedient. In the next session, Mike has promised to continue to fight for de-annexation and to bring broadband internet service to the entirety of District 29. He's also co-sponsor of the Blue Lives Matter initiative, and will be working on bill that seeks to protect the privacy of police officers' families. Mike Carter has effectively represented District 29 for the past four years, and has consistently cast legislative votes in line with our views and values. On August 4th, please vote to re-elect Mike Carter for State Representative.
